The International Week of Children with Leukemia in Turkey

 LOSEV-The Foundation for Children with Leukemia has been organizing The International Week for Children with Leukemia (IWCL) for the past 8 years to enrich the lives of children and mothers who are touched by childhood cancer, specifically leukemia.

 

The Foundation based in Ankara, Turkey extends a special invitation every year to children dealing with leukemia to be a part of IWCL. Participants from thirty different countries have been hosted until today.

 

This year the 8^th The International Week for Children with Leukemia will take place on May 30 – June 5, 2009; 3 days to be spent in the capital city, Ankara and 4 days in the beautiful city at the Mediterranean coast– Antalya. Activities during will include sightseeing tours, outdoor festivals, games and swimming. There will be experience sharing meetings for mothers also.

 

Through cooperation with NGOs, children’s hospitals and organizations around the globe, LOSEV hopes to reach as many children as possible who can benefit from this program which aims to give a fulfilling break from the rigorous treatment they undergo and make them smile.

 

Several Impressions From Previous Years

 

Japan- “In Japan it is not easy to say that you are a leukemia patient. Public is unconscious about the disease. Moreover, in Kabuki (traditional Japanese theatre) character with leukemia always dies. But after meeting with LOSEV, our family has started to work in order to change that situation by acting in a documentary film.”

 

Lebanon- “I would like to express my gratitude to LOSEV that enables these children from different parts of the world to say YES to life and compensate the time they have lost during treatment.”

 

Hungary- “We had a lot of unforgettable experience, could meet with such people who really give everything to put a smile on these ill children’s face and replace fear to hope in their heart.”

 

Israel- “We all know happiness, sadness, to give birth and when a mother fights for her child’s life, we are all so much the same! When I look to this group I get it: The humanity beyond the differences, this is very touching!”

 

 

Children Cancer Fund RUGUTE would like to express its deepest gratitude to LOSEV for collaboration. Two years ago, our Simona was participating at International Week for Children with Leukemia and this year, nine year old Aiste with her mother Guoda attended the Week. We believe that Asite as well as Simona will return home with the broadest smile and unforgettable experience.
