Conference Britain’s Experience – Guidelines for Lithuania

Auksinis kaspinėlis
On the 9th of March the representatives of Childhood Cancer Fund Rugutė took part in the conference Supporting People with Oncological Diseases and Their Families: Britain’s Experience – Guidelines for Lithuania that was organized by Britain‘s Charity Fund The Tiltas Trust, Oncology Institute of Vilnius University and the Embassy of United Kingdom in Lithuania.

The aims of the conference were: to present the British attitude of providing support and assistance to patients with oncological diseases and their relatives, and to start the project of support and palliative care for oncological patients, implemented by Charity Fund The Tiltas Trust.

Charity Fund The Tiltas Trust, British Organization Macmillan Cancer Support, British Organization Marie Curie Cancer Care and Oncology Centre of Šv. Pranciškus of Kretinga presented and discussed their experiences, and also reviewed the support that oncology patients in Lithuania receive today.

During the conference The Tiltas Trust presented its aim – to carry out research on support & palliative care of oncology patients along with the Macmillan Cancer Support and the Marie Curie Cancer Care on May 2009, where they sought to assign operating support groups and define their aims, returns and needs. The Tiltas Trust fund is hoping that this research will become a foundation for drafts of national programs that will provide recommendations on how to develop activity, how to access literature and seminars and how to provide other means of support to groups operating in Lithuania.

We are truly grateful to Mida Babilienė, the representative of Charity Fund The Tiltas Trust, for warm communication and for the invitation to take part in the conference.

We believe that the information provided during the event will help move us towards sincere cooperation with, and ensure the best assistance possible for, the families who have children with malignant diseases.
