Establishment of the Fund

We are all surrounded by people who teach us how to live our lives. However, none of them can tell us what to do when our child is diagnosed with cancer that requires a long, difficult and wearisome treatment.

 

Hearing the diagnosis malignant disease suddenly makes you feel empty, fearful and helpless. You simply cannot accept this fact. The denial is followed by lots of questions: what kind of illness is it? Why did my child get ill? What will happen to my child? How should I tell my child about it?

 

Rugilė taught us to remain strong in a fight, to enjoy each moment and not to lose hope till the very last second. We lost our daughter. She left us on the 10^th of April, 2004. It would be too sad not to share our priceless experience with others.

 

After a long period of hesitations and doubts we established the Childhood Cancer Fund Rugutė. Why was I hesitating? I kept asking myself, whether I would survive joining lots of other children in their fight with diseases, over and over. But at the same time I knew I would be slighting myself if I walked away without helping others. So I made up my mind…

 

Why did we make a decision to establish a charity and support fund?

 

- To help people understand that every day, every minute and every second is priceless to a child with cancer, because there may never be another day, another minute or another second.

 

- To help families make their ill children’s dreams and wishes come true.

 

- To ease the daily routine of ill children and their families.

 

- To be able to be reach each other, to laugh and cry together or just quietly sit holding each other’s hands.

 

- To be able to help both the ill children’s families and their doctors by organizing a trip to a conference, internship, or by purchasing necessary medical literature.

 

We’ve got a lot of goals, but only the future will show us whether we are able to reach them all.
