Thank You for Your Goodness

Cranes
We sincerely invite all those, who would like to join us but have not done it yet, to offer a helping hand.

On the 23rd-24th of March, 2007, a big event, The Days of Japanese Culture, took place in the National Drama Theater. One of the aims of the charity campaign, initiated by Japanese people, is to improve the quality of treatment of Lithuanian children with oncological diseases.

This event was attended by over a hundred Japanese performers (they covered their own travel costs). Besides holding a feast for the fans of Japanese culture, they also invited the audience to support sick children.

The goal of this campaign was to raise funds to purchase a remote vital-signs monitor that is essential to carry out MRI tests on very young children in Kaunas Medical University Clinic, where children with oncological CNS diseases from all over the country are treated.

The documentary Before Flying Back to Earth by Arūnas Matelis that was shown in Tokyo in the spring of 2006, inspired the Japanese people to organize a charity campaign. The initiator of the campaign was the Association of Japan-Lithuania Friendship. In July of 2006 its delegation came to Lithuania and visited children at the Oncohematology Division of Kaunas Medical University Clinic. There have been many events, and there will be more of them, inviting Japanese people to support sick children in Lithuania.

Koji Toyama, patron of the event in Vilnius, professor of Music Faculty of Seitoku University, member of the Council of Musical Education Federation of Japan and advisor of Japanese Choir Association, said about the Japanese charity campaign: May our friendship be bound by the golden ribbon, a symbol of our joint fight against childhood cancer.

The organizers of the event were: the Association of Japan-Lithuania Friendship, Tokyo Associates Corporation and the Lithuanian Embassy in Japan. The event was organized in cooperation with Childhood Cancer Fund Rugutė.

The organizers are sincerely thanking the media sponsors of the event: National Television and Radio of Lithuania, channel TV3, radio station Power Hit Radio and the daily newspaper Lietuvos žinios. We thank all the other companies who published and announced information about the event and helped us to attract as many people as possible.

We also thank the telecommunication companies TEO LT, Omnitel, Bitė, Tele2 and Mediafon…With their help people were able to donate money by making phone calls and sending text messages via the short code.

Our thanks for sincere help to: public relations company Baltic Communication Partners and Artūras Jonkus, Rūta Pivoriūnienė, the staff of the National Drama Theater, security company Falck Security, volunteers from the company Radvila – all who helped to bring hope to the hearts of children, their families and doctors.

The funds were raised by collecting donations in special boxes that were placed in the lobby of the National Drama Theater, by making fund transfers to the special account of the project (account number LT49 7044 0600 0590 6807), and by sending text messages and making phone calls via the short code 1417.

On the first day of fund raising in the special boxes people donated 5616 LTL, on the second day – 3886 LTL. 2052 phone calls and text messages were made during the whole week (the exact amount of funds will be clarified when the telephone users pay their phone bills and the money reaches the bank account). Ando Yuuki Choir from Japan donated 15769 LTL. Physical and legal entities made transfers to the special account of 9267 LTL in total.

We want to thank all of you who so sincerely contributed to the charity campaign during The Days of Japanese Culture. We thank you from all our hearts – for your Goodness, Warmth and Care, for your immense wish to help little children who are fighting for their future, their families and doctors.

Thank you for every donated penny. With your help, one day we will be able to purchase the necessary remote vital-signs monitor for Kaunas Medical University Clinic, where children with oncological CNS diseases are treated. The equipment, that costs 300 000 LTL, is essential in children’s CNS tumor diagnostics.

We say a word of thanks to our main sponsors: company VILBRITA, company Sostinės namai, company Konica Minolta Baltia, S. Pavarinis, A. Jonkus, A. Matelis, P.E. Kovas, and all those, who opened their hearts for children.

Unfortunately, we have not raised enough money to buy the equipment yet. We need this equipment now, because maybe today some children will need their disease to be diagnosed with no delay and with the greatest accuracy, so they can receive the necessary treatment as soon as possible.

We are inviting those, who have not offered their helping hand yet, to help and to support the children and their families and doctors.
They are Waiting and Hoping. Let’s give them Hope...
